Im getting ready to take off my chain and give it a much needed cleaning. My question is, will I need a chain press to get the masterlink back together? I posted on another forum and got mixed results.

I guess if you were talking to the manufacturer of the chain....they would say to use a chain tool of some kind.....

I have never had a problem getting the chain back together by hand. Sometimes a small vice grip can help for the hard to get together link.....Any way that works...as long as you don't bend the link or connecting plates so there is no binding in the chain.

Thanks for the info. I'll be cleaning it off as soon as my 12 tooth front sprocket arrives.
