Default Blaster mods and overheating

Hey guys,
I sold my first quad ('89 Blaster) a year ago to a friend of mine who's 14, probably 115lbs. I'm going to help him go through it and replace/repack the bearings, etc. in a month or so. We're also going to put a Toomey B1 pipe kit on it, and maybe some other motor mods to get it some more power. Don't get me wrong, it runs great, but I will be taking him to the dunes here soon, and so he needs a little more power. He's a fairly good rider, so I'm just wondering if the Toomey pipe kit will do it, or if we should also go with a Vito's piston, V-Force reed system and maybe some mild porting? Or since we would be using a Vito's piston, would porting mess it up? Would it be better to go with a straight Wisco piston and then port it? I don't want him to spend more than $500-600 or so for the upgrades. After we get him to the dunes and he gets hooked, then we can think of doing more (or getting a different bike) as money allows. Also, has anyone had any problems with the Blaster overheating at the dunes? I only went once with mine, rode it for a few hours, then rode a Banshee for the rest of the time so I haven't had to oppertunity to blow the motor like a friend of mine did. I don't like the Blaster for the fact that it's air cooled. I've seen a liquid cooling kit, but I don't want to put it on unless I have to. We generally stop every so often at the crest of a dune and let the bikes cool down for a few.

Basically, what I would like from the Blaster is this... A bike that has enough of power so this kid can play in the sand and do some of those hillclimbs, etc. I realize that this is not a Banshee, but I don't want it to be a stock Blaster either. Anyways, thanks for any help you can give.

well yyour gonna need a pipe one way or another. i would say getthe toomey pipe, and do some mild porting. if he really likes the bike, and he wants to stick with it, contact ct and get a 240 kit. i think they are like $1000 or so, but they give you everything you need, and it will probably be enough motor for him to ride it for a while. if he wants to get a new bike then just pipe it then think about what he want so get next. the options are endless so make sure you explore every route b4 you decide onsomething. my 2 cents

I've never heard of a blaster over heating but that certainly doesn't mean it's never happened.
I did a search but came up empty handed where did you find a liquid cooling kit for the blaster?

Thanks

Mike

Here it is: X-treme ATV

I've seen a Pro Circuit pipe/sil/rad valve/reeds combo for less than $300, and so I was wondering if any of you had a dyno chart comparing the Toomey to Pro Circuit? What's the power difference? Also, any of you know how to get rid of the Banshee's hard thumb throttle? That thing bugs my thumb and I don't like it.

Thanks,
