Default First ride Kodiak evaluation

I just got back from a 40 mile trail ride through foot deep snow in some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. But first, a little history is in order.
Last week I parted ways with my faithful 2001 Yamaha Warrior. She was a great machine but after years of harsh rides, being covered in mud within two minutes and not being able to go through hardly any mud or snow, I had to let her go. I had never ridden anything other than sport quads and wanted a machine that was quick, smooth, comfortable and that had adequate ground clearance. I ended up with a 2000 Yamaha Kodiak 4WD.
This is a truly unbelievable machine. The ergonomics are outstanding. My body actually doesn't hurt after riding! Engine responsiveness was brilliant with very good deceleration characteristics. Pushbutton 4WD is very useful and the brakes are strong. I was easily able to keep up on the fast sections with my buddies Prairie 650 and it was easier for me to navigate certain tight technical trails. The only complaint I may have is that the shifter is a little stubborn but this is a minor gripe. Needless to say I am very pleased. I realize that my Warrior was designed nearly twenty years ago but I hadn't realized how far ATV technology has progressed.

Have you ever ridden an older 400? If so, what improvements did you notice that really made a difference?

I also have a Kodiak, it is a nice machine, but i must warn you about two problems i, as well as all '00 kodiak owners have had.
1-the water pump leaks, it's under the left floorboard(shifter side) check your's to see if it has a vent tube on it, if not you'll nedd that replaced.

2-the choke cable lets water leak through it into the plunger hole in the carb, if not fixed the water/mud in there will rot the spring out and the choke won't work properly. Also i think it gets below freezing in N.Y. so the water in there will freeze and it won't start in the winter.

I have just fixed these 2 problems on mine and it works fine now, NICE!!
