Are you planning this to be just an off road shop? That would be hard to do, finacialy.

If you are planning on carrying street bikes and what not, have a specific person devoted to each type of machine. One say for sport ATVs, one for utility, one for mx bikes, .....yada yada you get the point.

When you hire people hire enthusiast, if you can, people that actualy ride at least.

Compitant parts people, good mechanics...again you get the idea.

I don't think you need something flashy to do well at a shop, just do well at your shop and you will do well

I do like the race track thingy.

I like the track idea and someone already mentioned the part that would keep me coming back

HAVING ANY ITEM THAT I WANT IN STOCK!!!!!

I don't care if it costs extra, but it is nice to look at something other than a picture and make purchase based on that.

I also like the idea of being a specialty shop that only catered to say motorcycles and sport quads. That way your inventory wouldn't kill you and you could stock all the performance and aftermarket accessories. You would probably have to do internet sales also b/c local sales prob wouldn't keep you afloat in that scenario.

you need people with experience ,dedication and understand how important it is not to misss a trip riding,

one thing that is funny is that when i had my jetting questions ,i read ,i look at post and see whatother people are doing ,i went to 10 diffrent shops and i swear they told me 10 diffrent stories about what i should do for jetting...

I have yet to see a track built in my city or maybe a 100 miles around here and that would be great

we also need to bring atv racing here to the west coast and what better to have a track and all the trimmings you need in case something happens,repairs,dynos,tires..etc

well i am going to school now for my buisness degree and i hope it will happen soon, but if it does remember you all are invited to run on the track..(Only atvconnection members) Even the ones who upgraded there membership..JK

well there is a shop near my house that has a track stocks almost EVERYTHING, and it has a great display of yamahas, but the problem is tHEY DO NO MAJOR MOTOR WORK!! that makes me so mad. the store is awsome, but they don't do what i want done, other than that the pace is awsome.

if you were to open a shop, you would need major money, and you would always have to be availiable.

QA neet i dea that i saw once was having used quads availiable to rent out for short ride, like an hour or 2. i think it would be kewl to rent a quad and actually get a feel for it b4 you buy it. just my thoughts

Alright, how about this idea. Off road shop by day that has everything in stock. Strip club by night. The doors never close and instead of shiny poles, the dancers have tricked, stretched, shiny R's to dance with. Non alcoholic of course cause brew and quads don't mix ever. You could have an indoor 300 foot sand drag strip put up, but you would have to set up some kind of ventilation system because of all the exhaust. I am gonna leave and try to find myself, if I'm not here when I get back wait longer. LOL

Do what I did. Cater to the bikes or quads that you have the most in your aera. Stock common wear out items. Keep items in stock that realy work not just sales hipe items. Buy in volume or by closeout and pass the savings on to the customer. Stay open till 6pm in the winter and 7pm in the summer so they do not have to rush from work to the shop to get there parts. Offer UPS shipping to your customers that do not live close. Rember your main customers at Christmas with a gift. Close on Sunday go to church and thank god for what you got!

One suggestion I might make is to not be cocky. I hate a cocky dealer. Just be honest and upfront.

I would like to be able to walk in and not feel like the guy I am talking to is full of it. I went to a local motorcycle shop just a bit ago. The guy tried to pretend to know about atv's, then when I pushed him he said maybe a big name shop might be better for the type of work I am looking for.

Why could he not be honest from the get go.

I would have competent sales people and competent mechanics. I would probably try to get a well known engine builder to work with me, so we could offer packages for engine work, and maybe just have him run the whole shop. That way, he could benefit from having built in customers, and I would not have to worry about the shop end of it.

Well, there are some thoughts.
