This is a great topic. I have recently been thinking about how to write off all my racing and travel expenses as "buisiness expenses". So I guess the only way is to open my own shop and hire myself as the "Pro-Rider", like all good golf courses have their own "Golf Pro".

The name of my shop would be - ROD'S QUADS

I would sell only new and used 4- and 3-wheelers, both sport and utility. No road or dirt bikes.
I would sell stock and fully race-prepped quads. Someone could walk in and buy a stock $3000 Blaster or a $12000 fully XC prepped Raptor or a $20000 fully MX prepped 250R. They would tell me their budget and desires, and I would make their dreams come true.
I would always have the parts in stock that people may want.
I would employ knowledgable mechanics and a truly great engine builder.
I would treat all of the sick 4-wheelers as patients in my clinic and give them the best of care.
I would have a dyno for tuning.
All employees would be required to race in a certain number of races per year. Any type of quad racing is acceptable, SX, MX, Hillclimb, Mud-Bogs, XC, Sand Drags, NHRA Drags, TT, Flat track, Ice, etc.
My shop would have a MX track out back and a 10 mile XC track on my 500 acres of land.
After signing their life away, potential buyers could rent a used quad for a couple hours to test each model out.
Past buyers could ride the 2 tracks for $5 per day. Everyone else - $20 per day.
Video games and a coffee shop set up in the middle of the store.
People would come from hundreds of miles away just for the experience, and for those that don't feel like driving, we would offer mail order.
I would keep all of my fully tricked out quads on the showroom floor just to give people good ideas of how to spend more money.

And most of all, I would make a personal connection with all my "guests", just like I do with all of my real patients in my pharmacy.

So who has $5 million to get my dream off the ground?

My dream atv shop would be one that stocks Banshee head light bulbs. Not too much to ask? And if they are out, dont make me drive 20 mins to prepay for a part you should stock anyway,

If I had my own Shop I wouldn't be a big ole dick head. The majority of the workers that i've meet in the shops are jerks and think they are more important then they really are. Don't get me wrong, I've meet some really cool people that run these local atv shops but for the most part, customer service doesn't seem to be real high on the list of most important things.

The customer is what keeps you in business

Unless I was into philanthropy, I'd close it down and invest in something else.

Retailing something that is a hobby is a very tough business - basically anyone who's into that hobby is willing to do it for fun, which means they compete at a very low price level inherently, and you have to to do HUGE volume to really compete price wise with the mail order places for parts and cult-status engine builders and tuners for service.
