Default raptor idle

I 'm having a problem with my idle on my 2001 Raptor. I just installed a White Bros R4 pipe and Dynojet jet-kit 144/146 and needle clip set on the fourth postion from the top. The first problem I had was it would miss when I would give her a little gas, found out the e-brake switch wasn't properly disengaging. Now the idle is really high, I tried to adjust the throttle stop screw but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any advice would be helpful.

4th clip from the top is correct per the Dynojet instructions.

Check & make sure the choke isn't sticking ( a common 01 problem)
Make sure your throttle cable is properly routed & isn't kinked.
Check for vacume leaks or cracks on & around the carb boots.

If none of that works pull the carbs back off & make sure they're assembled correctly & check the float level (it's easy to bump the float & change the highth) & make sure that no crap got in to them.

I checked the ckoke lever and the cable wasn't moving freely so I loosened the cable at the carb and it works fine now but still had a very high idle. I adjusted the trottle lever adjustment by the front master cyl. and all is good now. Thanks for the reply.

You shouldn't have had to adjust that with what you did. Do you still have a little free play in your throttle?????????

Ward660R,

Please explain what you mean about freeplay and how I can determine if it is set properly

Forgive me for stating the obvious, but you mentioned adjusting the throttle stop screw (located on the left hand handle bar), did you adjust the idle control on the left side of the engine?? There is a fairly large **** at your left shin that controls your idle speed. You didn't mention adjusting that.

Try that before you tear into your carbs again.

Yep, I just assumed that if he could rejet he knew about the idle speed screw. Try what GregV said, you can't miss the ****, right by the carbs on the left side.

What I was saying is your thumb throttle should have a little slack in it, not much, but you should be able to wiggle it with out it giving it any gas. Make Sense???????? The manual says a certain amount of free play, say ( this is just a guess ) 2mm. Just enough to wiggle it.

I stated in my first post that I tried to adjust the throttle stop screw which is the "fairley large ****" and it did not change my idle. When I adjusted the throttle lever adjustment it brought my idle down and then I was able to adjust the idle with "large ****". I think my cable just got tweaked when I was jetting the carbs.
