Banshee not revving!
#1
I have just recently rebuit a Banshee from the ground up. I removed the parking brake and the cumbersome cluthch lever assembly. I also removed the TORS carb tops. When I did the TORS, I Removed the TORS black box and cut and taped off the wires. Same with the Parking brake, just cut the wires. About 10 minutes into the first ride the engine suddenly cut out and only would rev to just above idle. It sounds like the spark is being limited, just like when parking brake safety limiter is functioning. Is this my problem? What should I have done with the TORS and PB wires? I tried connecting some of the wires together in different combonations to see if it would make a difference, but to no avail. Any suggestions on what steps to take next?

What year banshee is it on? Most have a sliver box for the TORS control. It should have three wires coming out of it that only need unplugged and not cut. Chances are if you cut a bunch of wires, a couple of them have shorted together. The white with purple tracer at the CDI box is the PB wire for most models.

It is a '99 Banshee. I followed the wires to the black box under the gas tank on the clutch lever side. There were only 2 wires with a white connector (Black and Black with yellow trace). They didn't lead to anything but the white connector, so I just removed the box. The other side of the white connector went into the rest of the wire group. This is where I cut the connector off and taped off the black wire and black w/ yellow.

Man, I will have to get my schematic. The TORS control box really should have been silver, and should have three wires coming out of it going to a triangle shaped plug. If I am thinking right, you might have disconnected the voltage regulator. It keeps the voltage at 12 volts so you don't blow your light bulbs. Let me check tonight and I will let you know.

I checked my book and the TORS is the black box above the left cylinder. The voltage regulator is silver box located next to the CDI in the rear of the subframe. I did find the wires that you spoke of (black-black/yellow-black/white). They were tucked in the the rest of the wires. The others wires that I first spoke of were from the parking brake switch. Should any of these wires be connected in order to complete a circut thus bypassing any of the limiters (PB or TORS). As of right now all are not connected.

I have traced all the wires and found that the only ACTIVE wire that was cut was the Black/White that came from the TORS. This wire ran from the CDI to the TORS and then to the Engine stop switch. This wire was exposed and could have possibly touched a ground wire that it was near. This could account for the sudden loss of revs. Is it possible that the CDI was damaged and then react in this manner (provides spark but will not increase spark with increasing RPMs). That is how this thing is acting,... just like the RPMs are limited to about 2000. Could the CDI be the culprit? Anyone have an extra CDI to sell me?

I have a spare CDI just pm me with your address and I will send it to see if it works.
You could have shorted your CDI, or being a banshee, it could have just went bad.
You are right about the boxes now that I think about it. Its been awhile since I worked on them.
