Default Raptor engine oil.

Just about ready to change oil in the new raptor for the first time. First question, what is the factory oil? I guessed it to be the 20W-40 because when not warmed up it seems kinda thick.

Second question, what are you guys running in your quad? What about the 10W-50 from Yamaha? My dealer told me it was only for the YZF four-stroke dirt bikes and to stay with the 20W-40 in summer and go to 10W-30 in the winter.

Last question, are synthetic oils better for the engine? I heard that some oils are too good and can cause clutch slippage? Thanks.

Synthetic all the way and Amsoil 4 stroke if you can find it. If not, Mobil 1 in 10w30. If you don't get synthetic with friction modifiers added, no problems with a wet clutch. Search the forums for synthetic oil, someone posted an awesome link to independent oil testing for motorcycles. It explains all the stories about synthetic and wet clutches and how the motorcycle oil you buy at the dealer is the exact same oil sold for cars but 4x the price.

So in other words the Yamalube semi-synthetic 10W-50 would be good in my Raptor? I don't want any clutch slippage caused by oil that is wrong for my machine......might reduce ability to beat other quads and pull wheelies!

I don't know, I won't pay 4x the price for dealer oil.

I hear you man....$7 a quart is very steep, not to mention the $10 oil filter!!

I think the 20W-40 is $3 something a quart.

The Polaris PS4 oil for the Predator is very high in price too. What do they think we are, made of money?

I use the Valvoline 4-Stroke ATV oil. It hasn't let me down so far, plus I'm a die-hard Valvoline user. Cost: $4.95/qt.

I have always used Castrol GTX 10w-40. It's never let me down, and I ride hard, plus it's $1.69 a quart at wal-mart. I use it in My modded DS650, and Modded Raptor.
