OVERTHEHILLWARRIOR,maybe you need to actually watch a race to have a more accurate oppinion on nascar racing, there are 4-door luminas as well, the reason the manufactures run 4-door cars is that none of them build a rear drive car at the current length/width/height/wheelbase requirements that nascar has,and in theory a 4-door with the same wheelbase would be less aerodynamic than a 2-door like it,so that's not much of a issue when they all run 4drs...you stay tuned.

Whatwasthat,
I know they still make the Monte Carlo, I guess I should have made it clear that I was talking about GM discontinuing the rear drive Monte in 1987. Are we clear now?
Hellfish,
I'm not trying to get you all riled up, but Chevy runs a Monte Carlo (not a Lumina) which is a 2 door model not 4. So where do you get that they all run 4 door cars? When Ford first made the the switch to the Taurus they were allowed some leeway on their body because there were no 2 door models made. My point is, that you're right a 4 door car is more likey to not be as efficient. Ford got to redesign their body in the rear to make it more competitive with the GMs. Look at the rear roof/quarter window lines where they meet the quarter panel, they aren't the same as a production car, I believe they also stretched them out a little to, to make the minimum wheelbase rule. I will try to find my old issue of stock car racing that had an article on what all was done to make the Taurus competitive with GM. As for watching a Nascar race, I have been watching since before Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison got into a fist fight on national t.v. at the 78 or 79 Daytona 500. That's why I don't like it near as much today, that kind of stuff just don't happen like it used to,wayyyy tooooooo political now days. So I think it's safe to say I've seen a few races in my day. I also help crew (12 yrs.)a dirt car at a local race track that is Nascar sanctioned, I know it's not the same as the big boys, but that should give you some idea on my racing backround. What kind of racing backround have you got? I've watched this sport grow from when you were lucky to ever see a race on T.V., to now having prerace shows and in car cameras. Thats why I think the France family's greed and the politics they have today are slowly ruining this sport. Bigger is not always better in my opinion.

Here is a short article that talks a little on the changes to the racing Taurus.
www.race-it.com/nascar/5-21.htm
Check it out, then tell me I'm wrong and need to watch more races.

Here is the article mentioned above.

Make it easier for people who wish to read.

But without the Taurus modifications Dodge probally would have not got in.

The Avenger is modified too.

OVERTHEHILLWARRIOR,what does 2 or 4 doors matter there #'s are measured in a windtunnel so that does'nt make any difference at all they go by downforce coefficency comparison after wind tunnel, and they have no doors anyway, and is for knowing nascar i am from nc and have been to over 25+ races and some my friends have race cars i've changed a few tires/springs/engines myself.by the way here's a easy question for you if u know so much who was darell waltrips crew-chief before jeff hammond?

Go back and reread your first post. That is why it matters to me, you talk about Chevy crying after Las Vegas if there aren't any rule changes. MY WHOLE POINT IS HOW MUCH MORE RULE BENDING CAN THERE BE THAN TO ALLOW A MANUFACTURER TO RACE A BODY STYLE THEY DON"T PRODUCE AT ALL ???? You must have read the article, so now you say what matters 2 or 4 doors? The rules used to be for 2 door cars, but your beloved Ford whined and cried to get a major rule change, didn't they. Apparently when Ford wants a rule change it's not whining to you, but when Chevy is at a disadvantage, then it's whining and crying when they ask for a rule consideration.
