I recomend all owners of the 2000 kodiacs check their rear brake pads now! I just took mine in for its first service visit and was in shock when my mechanic said the rear brake pads were metal to metal. This Quad is only 2 months old and because of the great engine brake has had very little use of the rear brakes. The icing on the cake was that yamaha has no replacement pads available for 3 WEEKS.
I love my Kodiac but I sure don't want to be replacing brake pads evey month. If you check yours and find the same situation be sure and let yamaha know. (maybe they will privide a better pad next time 1-800-962-7926.

Just did a brake job on a 2000 Kodiak yesterday... this is a machine that a 58 year old woman rides very gently...
Go Figure.

sorry KOMATSU...
The pads were trashed, she rarely uses them, but nobody had aftermarket ones available for it... It looks more like sand/mud damamge than use..
I will probably end up replacing them agina as soon as EBC makes some replacements for it.

How exactly do you inspect the brake pads for wear?

I just received this reply from EBC.

We just got our FA307R and FA307SV 2000 Yamaha Kodiak rear pads into our warehouse last week. Call Rocky Mnt. ATV at (800)336-5437 as they are just getting them now.

I've had my Kodiak for 8 months and my rear pads still look good.I don't ride in mud or sandy conditions too much, mostly trails.I will keep a check on them though.

Rear brakes are down to metal today. Rotor is scored pretty good. Only had it since January. hardly ever ever ever use rear brakes!
