Default Raptor problem

Me and my buddies both have raptors and we were dragging in a field and all of a sudden his raptor started making a sound like the starter was trying to engage. He turned off the engine and the key and it was still making the terrible noise. He had quick thinking and ripped the seat off and pulled the battery. It stopped when he cut the power from the battery. He started it up again and it didn't do until about 2 minutes later trying to get back to the house. We put a little oil in because it was a tad low and he started it up again and it ran fine for the rest of the day. Any ideas on what the heck is going on?

Also on my raptor, if I am using the clutch a lot and starting and stopping a lot the clutch gives out and doesn't want to engage. If I don't use the clutch for a while then it is just fine again. Anyone know why that is?

On your question, it is because when you use the clutch more and more it heats up and tends to slip more than ussual. This is normal when racing and dropping the clutch all the time, let the clutch cool and it will not slip as much, if it really bothers you get a bigger oil resuvour (butchered that word) it will run the oil cooler in the case and reducing slipping a little bit. As for the starter engaging thing, maybe the starter switch/wires are loose or not working right.

The oil thing makes since. Thanks

I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't hurting anything when it does that.

you probably should put in a new set of clutch plates since it is slipping . Whatever you do don't use the Barnett clutch system. You can do a search on the forums for that,it has been said eneough.
The oil tank thing will help some but the real problem is the clutch plates.

If you bought it new you need to take it back to the dealer, something isn't right.
If it is used you need new plates.

After the break in of my Raptor I had the same clutch problem. It only happened once....and I was gett'n down pretty hard in the dunes. I took it back to the dealer and they readjusted the clutch. It hasn't happened since.
For the starter question....I would say loose wires as well....maybe a bad switch.
Good luck

Shane

when i got my raptor it was brand new out of the box. the second day i had it the clutch was doing that. That was june 1st 2002. I doubt the warranty or the dealer would cover that now?
