Default diagnosing electric/starter problem...help?!?!?

i have a 99 warrior that im sellling for a raptor. Back in the beginning of the winter i was riding it snow, wet, mud, etc. When i got back the starter button was spazzing out. i would hit it, it would be dead...hit it again...nothin...hit it again and the starter goes. it got worse. I would have to rapidly tap it, then it would work after bout thirty seconds. Make a long story short, it doesnt work anymore. My uncle showed me to touch with a screwdriver the two contacts on the starter relay solenoid thing. He told me by doing this i was basically manually doing what the starter relay is supposed to do electronically.

anyhow, i bought a new one and guess what....it still doesnt start!!! The starter definately work and the battery too. Since the starter relay is fine, this means whatever electrically comes before this isnt giving it the message to work. So help me out. How do i troubleshoot what is faulty? Thanks for any help. Warrior

Since you know your starter is good start at the soleniod (if you have one) and follow your wires up to your switch.
Make sure all your contacts are clean and secure. You should find your problem soemwhere in there.
Does your headlight and other elec. components work? I'm not familiar with your system but these are basic troubleshooting guidelines.
If you have a soleniod it could be your problem.
Good luck

Yes - its definetly between the starter button and the solenoid. I would pull the whole thing apart if you dont see it in the starter button. I would check out the starter button first and if its full of sludge I would clean it out and put some electrical contact silicone in there so it wont mess up again.

you may want to use an ohm or continuity tester on the switch just to make sure its contacting.

yea the wires arent very protected for that. I had a stick snag one of my wires and I lost all my batery connections, still started with the pull. it was just one of those little connectors that plugs in. Check all the connections, use contact cleaner and file any corroded connections.
