Default Raptor Tranny FIXED ! - a priceless moment.....

- Parts for 02 conversion (complete) = $635.38

- Misc shop supplies = $45.00

- Crygenic treatment to strengthen gears = $38.00

- Hours spent researching and posting questions = 24hrs

- Hours spent behind a wrench = 30hrs

The feeling of shock and angst when it blew and getting escorted back to
camp on a rope = PRICELESS...

It's all done and working well - whew ! It better last !

HUGE thanks to Warrior007 and the work he has put into Raptortranny.com Without it I wouldnt have even attempted the job - probably saved me $700 bucks easy !

Glad to hear of the success. I know i will be in need of Raptortranny.com one day on my other Raptor. How mechanicaly inclined are you, if you don't mind me asking. Have tore down motors before? Car or Motorcycle. If not how far into an engine have you been before? I'm curious is all. Was it intimidating at first then became easy? Or was it intimidating all the way through? I'm relativly mechanicaly inclined. I've seperated the cases on an LT80 but nothing like a Raptor. I've been as far as a piston change on all my previous motorcycles, all 2 strokes. I've been down to the having the head off on the Raptor but no farther. I think I can, I think I can, LOL, maybe.

Good job Fisher. Damn now your ahead of me. I'm still waiting on my bolts and springs for the clutch.

Wash, tearin it down is easy. Its putting back togther thats fun. No its not that bad. (especially with RaptorTranny.com) If you have done motor repair before then its actually fun to see how different it compares to a car motor. This was my first bike motor teardown. I have done cars and trucks.

Thanks guys - Im pretty stoked it ran right !

I consider myself a novice. This was my first "full" motor teardown. I've never done any serious internal work, just replaced rings, and sent clinders off to be machined - that kinda stuff. I replaced my warrior clutch once. 9-out-of-ten times it seems like there is some specialized tool required so that discourages me. Removing heads and a timing chain is as far as I've been into auto/truck motors. I was simply sick of spending the $$ and didnt really trust our service guys to change all the circlips, o-rings, etc....

After studying Raptortranny.com I figured I could handle the tear-down and if things go bad I'll just take it to the shop in a basket. Everything went smooth and I just took my time and tried to stay organized. The service manual was really the key. I was constantly referring to it so I didnt forget anything along the way. No specialized tools required except something to hold the clutch basket but that was simple - drilled a couple holes in a piece of metal.

The worst part was getting started and stripping the motor out and thinking "i'm never gonna remember to but this back together correctly".... but you do. Actually, the internals are pretty hard to put back together improperly - they simply wont fit together wrong. Therefore, ya figure it out pretty quick.

Now that this job was successful, I feel pretty good. Learned alot and it was actually kinda fun (BUT I WOULD HAVE RATHER BEEN RIDING !!!).

Go for it ! If ya get in a jam, post a note and I'm sure we all can help !

Eric

Yep - I've been breakin it in gently (had the cylinder honed and new rings) by running around the block three or four laps at a time. I'm short on time today, but tomorrow I'll hit the dez ! It shifts great and I like the gear ratios better - seems more evenly spaced.

So far, so good - and no leaks

The feeling only gets better as the motor lasts. My "first" raptor motor has outlasted the one Yamaha ASSembled(crazy caps buton). Get a chance to race a buddy who paid to have it built by a pro shop and smoke-em...
How many parts did you have left over?
