Do's and Dont's????

never had any problems with the carb boots. but i have had one problem that has really bugged me. the raptor has a safety throttle cutoff connected to the parking brake. if the parking brake gets too loose, or if it isnt just perfect, you wont be able to give it any throttle without it cutting out on you. I had to take it back to the dealer twice before i figured out what the problem was. I have stopped using the parking brake altogether, and the problem has stopped. i understand that there is a kit to remove the parking brake, and im looking into getting it, just havent found where or how yet. when i lowered the suspension for ice racing this winter, it stretched out the cable, and had too much play. i had to tie the front lever on the handlebars together with a coathanger. it has worked well. so in summary, dont use the parking brake, just put it in gear when you transport it. and if you can, get the darn thing removed. you cant just take it off, because it is connected to the computer throttle control.
ive also noticed that when i start it in first gear, the quad will jump. its like the clutch isnt even disengaged. so start it only in neutral. congrats on you purchase, and welcome to the ownership club. you will be happy with the quad, most have been.

Get some lock tight. Check ALL your bolts and nuts after every ride. When you find a loose one don't just tighten it. Remove and put thread locker on it. I've lost several assorted fasteners over time by not doing what I just said.. I havn't had any real problems in almost 3 years of hard thrashing. Destroyed the engine skid and swing arm skid right off. Shredded the front tires. Side walls are very soft... Other than that no probs.. Change the oil often. I do the filter every other oil change.. Try cutting the top off a gallon plastic milk jug, wedge it into the frame under the oil tank. When you pull the plug the stream goes straight down. Cut jug as tall as possable, you have to squeeze it a bit to get it back out. Cleanest way to drain the gear box is put right side front and back wheels on 2 4 X4 wood blocks or a couple of bricks. This tilts the whole bike to the side with the drain plug on it. Instructions say to remove the engine skid plate to drain oil. Easier way....>>There is a hole in the engine skid plate to drain the oil through, Grab a hand full of paper towels and stuff them in between the engine case and the skid plate surrounding the hole you can make sort of a dam. Even if you sort of miss the hole the oil won't run all over the under the engine.. Sounds sort of complicated and you can make a real mess. Not too bad after the second or third time though.

Warrior 86, the gearbox fluid/oil is one in the same. Nothing extra there. The first aftermarket part you will want to put on is a full skid plate. The stock one is worthless, and there's not much clearance under there. It's real easy to crack your case. Anyway, the things I've dealt with:
- Wasn't greased from the factory. Re-grease at all the zirc's.
- I do the oil/filter every 15-20 hours
- Clean filter after every ride
- Check battery cable connection before every ride. If it gets slightly lose, you will try to start it and get a click-click-click noise, like the batteries dead. Just an 1/8th turn loose.
- Block up the rear after/before every ride and verify the hubs are tight. Mine likes to work loose every few rides.
- Every 15-20 hours when I replace the oil/filter, I also adjust the valves. The intakes are always tight, and I've only had to adjust the exhaust once. Get one of the motion pro tools for doing the adjustment, makes all the difference in the world.
Few other things I can think of for aftermarket stuff:
- If you decide to get wheel spacers, don't buy the durablue's. They suck. Poor fit, cheap hardware, thread pitch on rear bolts don't match the stock nuts.
- When you get a pipe, unless you are going into your engine in the future, don't waste the money on a full system, get a slip on.
-Stock tires suck, replace them as soon as possible. Especially if you like to power slide (it is a quad, so I imagine you do)
-The trailtech speedo is a real cool addon
-After the basic bolt on performance upgrades, I would suggest putting money into the suspension, before spending money going into the engine.
Anyway, I'm rambling now. This board is packed full of the info I just gave you and more. Can't beat it, best place on the net for raptor info....
Good luck, and congrats on your new baby!
