Best Bang?

Hey guys,
I've concidered buying a quad but i'm wondering which one will serve me the best.
First off, I want something thats pretty reliable and won't break everytime I go riding
Secondly, I was something with power and something that has lots of power potencial.
Where I ride its mostly dusty dirt, with the occational asphault, Gravel, woods, jeep trails and stuff like that.
I ride with two others, one has a bayou 220 and the other a KX100, The kx will blow both of us away, I ride a 200es and its just not what I need and is a slowww revver.
I would also prefer having a pretty high top speed, as one of the roads around here is very strait and I always get in 5th maxxing it out. It would be nice if the suspension and handling was also nice. Upon selling my 200es i'm exspecting around 900-1000, but my dad will help out in the purchase of the next ride, so i'm looking into spending at most 2500 which is pushing it. I've concidered the Warrior, Blaster, 300ex, Mojave, and maybe an older LT230-250. I'm pretty interested in the Warrior but know It won't be the nicest quad if I end up paying under 2500, u get what u pay for. Where as the Blaster I like too, Its a 2 stroke wich is a plus for me and is open to many mods. plus--it won't cost as much to start out with, leaving me more money to spend on mods.
Anyways,
I need some imput on what you guys think would suit me best. Thanks
-Mike

have you considered a 250R? They are a little underpowered and the suspension is not that of the new quads, but almost everyone has had one, and the mods are everywhere. But look for one that is close to stock, with the age of the machine a lot of work may not be good.

a used blaster goes really cheap and are usually in great shape. a used 400ex would be the best option, but they are typically 3500 used. warriors are good quads, and extremely reliable. the 300ex handles well, but it has transmission problems and is much slower than either the warrior or the blaster. skip the zuki 230 quadsport, it is a nice quad to put around on, but its a real dog in the trails. and dont even think about racing anything but kiddie quads up hills. Mojave is a solid beginning sport quad as well, dont know a whole lot more about them though.
i would say that you might be better off with a warrior or other four stroke instead of a 2, as the fours are easier to maintain. the warrior also responds very well to modifications.

Thanks for your imput,
I think i'm going to go with the blaster--But i've got severl questions first.
I was wondering about how much HP the Warrior has vs. the Blaster.
The other thing is, the blaster has around 20hp stock, I'm wondering what would be the best mods. for it to get it up to about 30hp, and have a high revving snappy motor. By adding a pipe i'll get about a 5-7 hp increase (what pipe do you recommend?). What are a few other inexspencive mods. I can do to make have around 30hp? After doing a few mods. like these how much top end could I exspect?
The other mods I had in mind would definately be replacing the balloon tires if they haven't alread been replaced, Add a new bumper, grab bar and maybe a few other things.
I just need your help in deciding what mods are the best to start out with, then i'll go from there.
Any help would be great, thanks

for a pipe, every one i have talked to likes the toomey set up. Go with a K&N or UNI air filter, you will have to rejet also. I personally will be putting a dial a jet on my quad when I get my pipe, but gytr jets are excellent as well. Depending on the tires, you may have to do some sprokcet swapping, and if you get a used blaster, make sure to get a rear brake upgrade kit. As far as the oil injection goes, its kind of up to you. We have had no problems with the bypass, but it would be convenient not to have to mix gas.
If you are buying used, a mid to late 90's blaster in good shape should sell for about 750-1250. a 2000 or newer should go up to 2500, depending on modifications. Dont pay any more than 2000 for a stock used blaster, its not worth it. If you are thinking about new, msrp is 3200, but they can be found cheaper.
I would only reccommend a 250r to someone who knows thier way around quads. They are older bikes and need more attention to keep them running correctly. Probably not the reliability you are looking for. They are not, however, underpowered, unless you are talking about a bone stock one. 250r's have been dominating the GNCC and mx circuits for years, and continue to do so. A decently built one will destroy my raptor.

Thanks for the reply,
I'm thinking I'll be looking in the $1,500 range. I don't want to go much higher than that, leaving me with more money to spend on modifications. I've checked out the Toomey pipe and it looks like it will give you about 28hp vs 26 or so with the FMF or ProCircut. I believe I'll go with the FMF Fatty, SST or something similar, and with the money i've saved not getting the toomey, I'll spend on an Airfilter, jeting, and probly one or two other things....I've got a few questions on Reed valves, Reeds and Reed Spacers, By installing aftermarket Reed valves, what power gains should you exspect, by installing reeds--what should you exspect and lastly, if you added a reed spacer--what does this do and does it help in power increasment?
And about the rear brake upgrade, who sells the least exspencive and easy to install kit? And is it worth the exstra 200-300 to do this?
Again, thanks for the help.

another pipe know one ever talks about is bills. i really like mine. also the oil injecter is up to you. i've had mine on since 91 and it still works fine. if your someone who doesn't take of your stuff then take it off. they only go bad when you don't keep them full. i never let mine get under half. maybe i've just been lucky!

Hey,
I'm wondering if there are any parts from like a Bashee or Raptor that would fit the Blaster. Such as swing arms, a arms, shocks, etc.? I've heard people say yes and no, but whats the real answer? Thanks
