I have been see a bunch of posts on steering stabilizer lately and I was wondering what do they really do? Are they just used for guys that race? I have a 99 Wolv. with stock tires and I ride on trails would the stabilizer help me or is this just another reason to spend more money. How much do they cost?

jcsact,
The function of a steering damper is to absorb the shock transmitted thru the steering post up into the bars and into your upper body, lessening fatigue from hard riding. The damper in most cases is mounted to the lower part of the engine and the upper part is mounted to the steering column with several settings from soft to hard depending on your preference & the conditions.
Do you need a damper? If you ride with any degree of vigor, a damper will greatly reduce felt shock from rock, jumps, or other obstructions encountered in trails, tracks, etc. The cost ranges from $99 to around $130, depending on the brand

Unless you ride on extremely smooth surfaces all the time a steering stabilizer will lessen your upper body fatigue by a factor of about a zillion.

It was one of the best things I ever put on my Warrior. I dont know how much help it will be on a 4x4 as I imagine the front wheels pulling kinda keeps it straight anyhow but for me I'd never ride it without one again if I can help it.
