Default Blaster Review

Today i took my first real trail ride on my blaster. I've trail rode many different quads, raptor 400ex, banshees, 300ex, warriors and many 4x4s. But the blaster well its completely a different animal on the trail.

Personaly i'm pretty impressed with its ability to tackle some pretty rough spots. I went everywhere with the guys that were with me, including a 416EX, 305EX, z400, raptor, and a rubicon.

First we started out doing some hill climbs, including a great hill that could count more as a jump, i was able to get about 5 feet of air without bottoming out.

Overall at some points i wished the blaster was longer, i felt a little unstable on steep climbs but i managed not to flip any. The guy on the z400 missed 2nd and slid down backwards.

Next we moved onto some pretty rutted out roads from 4x4 trucks, mud, and the whole thing. On this i had a HORRIBLE time due to the thin blaster landing me in ruts. I had to really pick my paths well. I did manage to flip it over once when i got off center and tipped over.

I am really considering getting some +2 a-arms and a +4 axle for this monster...But that means new front shocks are needed, maybe just some stock banshee ones. ALTHO I DO HAVE 18" tires on it right now!

The mud wasn't horrible everyone made it through it. Altho me and the 400ex had hard times because we have pretty bad tires.

Overall i would rate this a great little quad. I picked this one up used for 1000 bucks, it looks terrible the guy who owned it before me bought it for his 13 year old and the kid rolled it pretty good, compeletly trashing the plastic. Not broken, just creased. It runs great. And i picked up the aftermarket parts used all for 100 bucks(FMF Goldseries, FMF silencer, Skid plates, Red Spacer and a Jet kit) And i threw in a new wiseco piston kit and a nice honing.

I'd like to hear suggestions or stories from any one else who ACTUALLY owns a blaster. PLEASE SPARE ME THE BLASTERS SUCK MY RAPTOR IS BETTER, I DON'T CARE! I am Looking for input on mods to help with the blasters obvious lack of stance.

First I heard a banshee axle is 2 inches wider than the stock axle, fact or fiction? is this bolt on..no bearing carrier changes or the like.

Second, banshee shocks will fit if you have +2 a-arms? will banshee arms bolt on?

Suggestions on 22" trail riding tires. What about maxxis sur-traks? I had them on a 400ex once, they hooked up pretty good.

Who else loves their blasters!

Oh yeah, i a little about myself, i've owned many quads, 400ex, raptor(an 01 till the tranny blew up when i was breaking it in and the axle bent 2 weeks after i got that fixed, then it started running bad, missing back firing and then it finalyl just topped starting. i then took it back after many calls and got my money back, then i got a rancher 4x4 which wasn't what i really wanted after i got it, sold that and bought used the money from it to buy myself a new pickup and then i got income tax back and bought this 2000 blaster. I'm pretty experienced as a rider been doing it since i was 7 years old and i'm 20 now.

In other tech articles I have heard that shee shocks will fit on a blaster with no mods, just makes it set up a little higher. I was wondering if raptor shocks would fit also.
Everyone says get some works shocks but for what you would pay for those you would almost bought have your blaster.

I have a 98 Blaster with a 5" extended swingarm, still easy to wheelie but offers stability on the hills. Also, the front tires are inverted (turned around), gives a little wider base and offers stabbility on the coners.

its good to see some constructive input on this topic!

Extended a-arms are so much money! its like 400 bucks for the set, with the longer tie rod ends, and the ball joints.

A little bit of height on a stock blaster wouldn't hurt i must say, give you more clearance for trails.. Or if you wanted the extra travel, go smaller on your tires and then you would be at the same height with better shocks!

http://www.blasterzone.com/ sells extended swingarms for only 250 bucks!

I wouldn't touch their hydro brake kit, the mounting braket is right in the way, i'm sure a good rock would tear it right off!
