what does it mean when you port something? for example when you port a head

You can port the cylinder which increase cc's and when you "port" the head you are actually cleaning up the exhaust and intake ports and you finish the job by polishing out the rough edges hints the name port and polished head.

correct me if im wrong engine experts

so when you port do you add a larger head or what??

no you dont ad a larger head. you take and get the exhuast ports and intake ports machined and made larger

You are basically increasing flow as well as decreasing turbulence in the airflow itself. Does that help any?

Port and Polishing is aligning all the holes between the parts of the engine. When they come from the factory and are put together, all the holes dont line up exactly. So when you put them together, the holes wont line up exactly and that makes less air or gas flow the holes are not the perfect size.

raptor jay thanx fior the formula but one question? theres 2 BORES. i know onw bore is for the poston whats the other BORE for?

I don't know how, or why to tell you the truth...just the formula

kinda like Y=mx+b
or a2+b2=c2
just take the bore size and multiply it by itself then by the stroke and then by pie
