NEW PISTON DESIGN BY CRAYCRAFT RACING
#11
Just a question about polishing the piston top, etc.
Once you ride the bike for a little while, wouldn't the carbon buildup negate the polishing effect? Basically, the polished parts would be covered by a little carbon and it would take away the mirror shine and it could no longer reflect the heat like it did when it was shiny?
I just ask this because I had the top of my JE piston bead blasted to remove any sharp detonation causing edges and debated about whether or not to polish it. I decided against it because it seemed like the polish effect would disappear right after starting the bike and riding it for a while.
Opinions?

OK I found it http://www.totalseal.com/. DUH?!?!?!
You need to give them your groove width on your piston and they can custom make a set for like $40 or $50, estimated.
Is it worth it?

Got the price on my craycraft je piston. The toatal price is 255.00; that is shipping and all. Still undecided on whether or not to try to get everythung else coated before I put it back together this time. I might just get it polished for now or maybe not.

Air the totalseal top ring helps in maintaining a higher psi level in your combustion chamber. If you use the decompression pin in the cam of your choice, you should have no problems in starting your Raptor. I have been using totalseal rings since the mid 80's in my drag cars. The first set (gapless second ring) I ever installed I picked up a tenth of a second in the quater mile with no other changes to the car.
On my Raptor I hard a hard time keeping the front wheel on the ground, I could not leave the line at a dead stop to save myself. It was a beast! I will be using them again on my new 686 Craycraft engine.
When I ordered them I asked him how many people were using them he told me about two or three people in the US.
