My friend wants to sell me his 01 Raptor for cheap, but says that the starter clutch is out. (When he hits the start button nothing engages but, you can hear the starter free-spinning) So from reading this thread, is it actually the "one-way bearing" that causes this and NOT the "starter clutch"Also, how much $ might the dealer charge for parts and labor to fix this problem? Last, is this the aftermarket kit that you guys recommend............

mine is out to made 3yrs . i have a new la kit my problem is i cant get the fly wheel off tried heat and the puller .impact and heat all that did was pull the threads out of the fly wheel. any thoughts

 

Tighten up the puller too 60-70 ft lbs. Next, whack the center screw with a BF hammer and the flywheel will jump right off. Piece of cake...[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img].

 

Hey Ward, I put my L&A design kit in and now she'll turn over and over without any lockups. The only problem I still notice like Dune me mentioned is that it is a lot harder to turn over due to the 11:1 / stage 1. Other than that the L&A design kit is money well spent. My original idler gear was trashed and the one way's rollers had plenty of flat spots...Thanks Yamaha for the fine job. friggin gewks...LOL[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]

 

what part are you guys exactly talking about that wears out? is this part inside the case or part of the starter? i mena my raptor sound rough when im am trying to start it....anyone got any help for me?

 

Go to raptortranny.com for a good breakdown on this. I never had any problems with my 01 but upgraded to a L&A while the engine was apart. Same for the transmission. I did the work about 6 months ago so I say I had good service.
I never started it gear.Well almost never and always pulled in the clutch. I also change oil alot more than most people.

 

My 01, was going out so I got ride of it and bought a yfz450

 

is the part internal or external... the starter cluctch you are talking about?

 

do you just buy thats part from L&A? will that fix the starter problem.. if so cool. where do you order the part from.. website?
