raptor idle problems
Okay I am new here. I was riding my Raptor the other day when it just died. The gas was on, there was fuel in the tank. I got it back to the garage and started to check things out. The spark plug was still in good shape but I replaced it to make sure, still no start. Then I noticed that both carbs had vibrated out. I pushed them back into the rubber boots and tighted them down good. Now it starts but back fires and spits and sputters when given gas, but at an idle it runs normal, any sugesstions. Thanks.

Since it's a 2001 I'd check to ensure that the choke plunger isnt all rusted-up. Take a look at the cable on the choke lever (on handle bars) and make sure it's returning properly. Also, when the motor is warm actuate the choke. If it runs the same choke-on VS choke-off it's probably rusted up in the carb. Just a quick, easy check......!?

My Raptor acted like you describe just last weekend, one intake boot wasn't sealing on the airbox. It ran but had no power and carried on like I put paint thinner in the gas tank. Since you've already found part of the problem, check again to make sure you've got everything on the intake side sealed up tight.

Yes I check the parking brake I could not believe that both carbs had slipped out of there boots. Well they are both back in place and tightened down. I have had the parking brake problem on the Wolverine I ended up getting that taken of, stupid generic plugs. Thanks for the help........
