Thinking about tricking out my 2003 Kazuma 150
So my buddies are impressed that I took this 150 from sitting behind a barn for 3 years to running 30mph! They thought it would of been seized for sure.
The bike still needs shocks all the way around. It could use some new brake cables and it could use a fresh coat of paint too.
I am going to be doing a Yamaha Grizzly 700cc big bore kit on my buddies bike this winter and we started talking about ramping up the GY6 too. I thought about doing a 170cc/180cc stroker engine an upgrading the clutch to a racing setup.
I figured while I was taking the bike apart I could rebuild everything on the bike. I know it would be cheaper to just buy another bike, but I would like to see what I could make this bike look like a run like. Kind of a fun project in the garage after work in the winter months.
My plan would be to:
* rebuild the engine/trans
* disassemble the bike and replace the shocks
* remove the fenders, sand them smooth(because they are seriously faded) and recover them with vinyl/graphics
* paint the frame a high impact color like neon green or orange
* paint steel wheels to match. These are 3 lug wheels so I don't think I could get mags
* clean and replace any parts on brakes that need fixing
* replace old seat
* add tune exhaust
* reassemble the bike after motor build and paint
The GY6 build would be a stroker big bore kit. On dune buggies and scooters these kits achieve 70+ MPH. I think it would definitely get this quad over 60+ MPH! The bike only has lower control arms. I wouldn't recommend running over 30 MPH on trails, but could wrap it out on flat straight aways.
This bike could wind up looking cool and being crazy fast! I wouldn't trust the 7 year old frame and suspension for jumps or heavy terrain, but think it would be an amazingly fun bike when I'm done. The biggest expense is the rebuild of engine/trans. I would budget $1,ooo for overall build.
What do you guys think?
Think it would hold up to 60-70mph speeds?

Ok so another update. The guy that wanted this quad had some car trouble and used the money to fix his car. My other buddy came over and was beating on this quad and while doing a wheelie fell and ripped the whole rear rack off.
Not ten minutes later there was some clanking and banging from the gears. Something is slipping. It is not the engine, because when in neutral it will roar without problems. But when the trans engages there is some serious clanking.
I plan to take apart the CVT. I will do a pictorial DIY tutorial of each step and show how to remove everything, troubleshoot it, and put it all back together. I will have to use Kazuma parts because Kazuma uses specific parts that don't interchange with Lifan and other GY6 setups.
If I have time this weekend I will start the disassembly. I will take pics as I go.
