Newbie here.Been lingering in the shadows, very impressed.I just picked up an AC 454 for $500.00!Had a heck of a time getting it going, lots of junk in the carb. After using the starter for a bit,it started blowing ignition fuses as soon as you put them in and turn on the key.Starter relay or solenoid maybe?Anyone have access to a wiring diafram for this thing? The machine is in very good shape, only 1200 miles, just sat for a very long time. Thanks to all,Rich.

Had the same problem on my 400 and TRV. It was caused by a short in wire up under the instrument panel.

I would suggest taking your instrument panel apart and examining the wires going to the ignition switch. They could be pinched and have worn through and shorted out. You might also want to remove the seat and fuel tank to get a better look at the wiring harness where it goes up the steering column. The wires move as you steer the machine so they could be worn there as well.

Get a test light or a volt meter and follow the wires from the battery through the starter selinoid and up the the ignition switch.

Now that you have cleaned the carbs put a fuel additive called "Sea Foam" into the gas. It will clean the rest of the carb and is supposed to clean the combustion chamber as well. IT is really good stuff.

I have a wiring diagram for an 03 AC 500 or 400. It is not exactly the same as a 454 but would give you the basic idea of what the wires are.

If you would like it PM an email address.

Well, got it going, runs good.Motor was full of water, think he submerged it.Seen worse though.Anyone know where the float should sit?Running kinda rich, and have drops of fuel coming out the spout near the bottom of the airbox.

What did you find with the fuse blowing?

fuel coming out of the air box sounds like a sticking float or needle valve.

May need to clean the carb real good and use some furl additive called "seafoam".

If it was swamped then you may need to do a couple of oil/filter changes to get all the water out of the crankcase. There are lots of little pockets in there.
