I've been bitten hundreds of times by these and while they are a bit on the weak side by pulling the recoil starter, it's a whole different story when it's running at RPMs.
If it is indeed getting a weak spark there are a few things to look at.
First is the ground wire that attaches to the coil. Loosen the bolt and move the wire end a bit to "clean" it and then retighten it.
Then inspect the plug wire for any breaks or cracks.
Then get your manual and do a spec check of the stator.
Then an air gap check of the pulser rotor. (Its behind the CDI cover on the head).
I would say the issue is not going to be with the coil or CDI box itself as I have never ran across any that were "weak"...just good ones and bad ones are all I have ever found.
If all checks ok and you still think you have a weak spark and it's causing starting problems, you can bandaid fix it by closing up the gap on the sparkplug a bit to make it easier for the spark to jump the electrode gap.
Hope this helps.
