hi guys,

Dirt bike rider here, looking to get s nice quick quad for the woods. I have experience with 250 2 strokes, and 450f dirt bikes, but only experience with a Yamaha wolverine 450 quad.

I been looking at:

04 kfx 400 - $1650
06 predator 500 -$1850
05 yfz 450 - $2400
05 trx450r - -$2300

What do you guys think of those bikes and the prices? Any other suggestions?

I would stick with a yfz or a trx. The prices serm in line to me. Condition and maintenance history mean everything. Both would make great trail bikes with the right mods. First thing you should do is send the suspension off to be set up for you.

 

450s are more of a race fourwheeler not really made for the woods, they liked to be reved up all the time and iin my experience dont like idling and woods riding, every one i rode with seemed to break down a lot. Id look into a z400 kfx400 or the best sport fourwheeler in the trails imo the raptor 700. Also dont always get the cheapest one one find, youll end up spend more anyway lol

 

400ex would be another good choice. Very reliable and plenty of power for most people in the woods.

 

Yeah I personally ride a 400ex. I bought new suspension, tires, exhaust, and handlebars. Seems like it is more than perfect for trails. Sometimes it lugs so low I am completely amazed it didn't stall out on me.

 

Definitely the TRX400ex, extremely reliable, good power, and designed for trails. Racing quads need a lot of maintenance.
