2007 Rancher, got a couple issues
Okay, so I have not posted in a while. Thinking on getting an 07 Rancher 4x4 from a fella. The quad has a 455 kit in it, HMF programer, EBC Dirt Rider Clutch kit with some other things.
The throttle body was replaced when the kit was put in the machine. According to him, he told me that he was riding it and the "dash" lights went out, and now it won't start. It will turn over, but won't start. He is also telling me that he thinks the clutch needs to be set according to a mechanic. He is telling me that he right up until the lights went out (pun intended) the quad ran brilliantly.
Any ideas? If these are simple fixes, I can get this machine for a pretty good deal. If not, I'm going to pass.
*OH*, it is a manual foot shift. No EPS or the like.

Honestly, the clutch issue scares me more than anything. He said that it is slipping, and first gear "does not catch right". I am not familiar with a semi auto clutch system at all. My experience is with full manual and CVT. I don't know how you can "set" a clutch, especially one that is inertia driven with weights and springs. I would imagine it has been doing it since the kit was put in it. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

They have two clutches, the lawnmower type centrifugal clutch and a normal motorcycle one. The gearchange pedal is attached to this clutch and the first part of the pedal movement lifts the clutch, it re-engages as the pedal returns to the normal position. An adjuster is fitted to the clutch housing at the front of the engine, slacken the 14mm nut at least a turn.Turn the adjuster screw clockwise half a turn then back anti-clockwise until you feel resistance, back off a sixth of a turn and re-tighten the nut.

Download the service manual from HondaATVForums. There is a section on adjusting clutch engagement point on the Honda auto-clutch transmissions. The process itself is simple, getting to the adjuster can vary in difficulty depending on your model and if there's 4x4 parts in the way.
The Honda clutches are centrifugal. Totally different from a lever operated clutch like you would have on a motorcycle.
