Default Polaris Sportsman 650 XP

Well do we think Polaris will just keep the 550 and 850 for 2011? Or will they
change it up and go with a 600 class? My dealer said that the SP700 are gone for good
and they plan on only mid-range (500 range) and like 800 or bigger class, just
two.

Whatch'ya all think? No 600 or 700 anymore?

Cheers,

R'

I don't see them bumping up the cc's on the 550 much,if at all, unless the demand for singles goes away. They have plenty of power and seems a lot of folks are partial to them and not offering a midsize single cylinder could backfire. I think dumping the 700 was a good move. If you want a big twin then go all out IMO. Wouldn't surprise me to see the 800 go either and only offer the xp line-up. Guess time will tell. If Popo is smart they are paying attention to these forums and customer surveys sent in on new machines.

Theres alot of constructive critism about the new 550XP being underpowered by new riders and the mag reviews. Again I can't say! So I was wondering if Polaris will remedy that, will it be with a new class between the 550 and 850? Will the 850 more up higher to compete with Can Am and others on the horizon?

Cheers,

R'

If the economy stays the course its on now I think its possible Polaris will cut the fat, if the model isn't selling well....then kiss it good by!!! JMO

guessing just whenthey had the 600 sp. that went away because it ws so closely in the power range of the 500 ho that it wouldn't be a good seller. they should have kept the 700 and dumped the 800 if since they have the 850 already so they would have a in between model. imo

Yea I guess its like the SP450 and the SP500 thing? But now there is a SP300 right?
Its all really goofy! I guess they base their decision on customer sells? I hear the 500 class has its highest base? So maybe the thinking was to boost the mid range 500 class a little with the 550? But why are so many claiming its so underpowered? You never heard that language from the SP500 fan base! Is it less power than the former SP500? What is it compared to? Other models of its class or to the 850XP? Well I guess if you ride the 550 and then jump on the 850 you are really going to notice a big difference, lol.

Regards,

R'

I haven't ridden a 550, but I think everyone expected a bigger power boost over the old 500. I bet there is very little difference in them engine wise. Although I would love to trade in the 500 and get a 550 with EPS for the wife.

Other manufacturers were going to the 550 class and so did Polaris. I really don't see a 650 coming. Even the 700 couldn't keep up with the competition's 650's. I see something bigger in the near future.

I agree with Roofer, its not that the 550 is underpowered at 38HP thats where a 550cc utility belongs, but people just expected the 550 to blow away the old 500 but 50cc extra can only do so much.

Same with Yamaha there were people who thought the new 550 Grizzly would have more power then the old 660 Grizzly, just because its a newer model.

So what are the Polaris fan base to expect then? A better 550XP? Or some other
model in-between the 850XP? Who knows maybe it was Polaris intention with the
price increase on its mid class to move up to the SP850? For "some" the bigger the number will just keep people from moving up regardless of the price difference. IMO!
Amazing that its only $1300 diff. Alot more bike for that cash!

I never like the fact that the XP550 was selling for only $300 less then a SP800 Twin and $300 more then a KQ750 up where I live. The 550 is a midsize single cylinder ATV with a big bore ATV price.
