Default 2011 Sportsman 500 Trans Clunk

Have had this atv for 11 hrs and 50 miles and the trans seems to clunk. It is really noticeable when wheel is turned when you get on the gas from a stand still. It will be going into the dealer the 29th.
Just wondering what it could be. Thanks.

That sound is pretty typical of the 500 trans case. I guess all the 500's that have the trans and rear end together have the clunk. It's a little slack in the gears but nothing to worry about. But if it's under warranty get it checked out to be sure.

You should feel my 09 550XP. Brutal, but still works great at 6600 mi.

Certainly interesting. I'll still take it in but am less concerned now.

Normal as mentioned above to have gear lash on the 500,more noticeable on the larger machines. You have to figure from the motor to the clutches, then to the transmission, then to the drive shafts, there is going to be a little slack. If there wasn't, then something would probably break or wear out even faster! Enjoy your new ride! OPT

From what I,m reading he says he gets a clunk after he is in gear. I get a clunk when putting it into gear but none applying the the gas after its already in gear.

Some do,some don't! Have has some 500s clunk straight out of the crate when you were in gear taking off, and some were quiet. Almost all the 600s-800s did this,a lot more noticeable. The XPs were downright brutal. I'd like to try one now that they have fixed this. OPT

Right you are, OPT. The only Polaris I've had that didn't have any clikx & clunks was my 08 400HO, but never had to repair one of them for that reason.
