Default 04 sportsman 600 power issue?

Hey everybody. Need some help. My atv will crank fine when I hook it up to the jumper but has no power at all if not hooked up. I even took the battery out and connected the cables directly to the jumper and it works fine. Any thoughts? I figured since it will jump it's likely not a grounding problem. Thanks for any help. It's a brand new battery by the way.

Connections tight? Do you keep it on a maintainer? Have you had the battery load tested? I've had brand new batteries that were bad straight out of the box.. One way to tell is have a meter on the battery leads while cranking. If it drops to around 9 volts or less, the battery could be the problem.Plus once running is the charging system working ok,charging around 14 volts back to the battery at an idle? Even if it's charging ok,an open(sulfated) cell in the battery can cause it not to hold a charge. Check the simple things first.

If you've eliminated the battery, charging system, then possible a worn starter or starter bendix could be causing a drag on the battery. Something like that would cause you to have to use a jumper. If it's a starter problem, plenty of them here or on ebay. DB Electrical - Polaris ATV Starter-Drive Combo Sportsman Ranger 600 700 800
