Default 93 350L 4x4 first trail ride

Spent the week checking over my recently purchased Polaris 350L 4x4 and doing the chains and sprocket on my Xplorer. Everything checked out on the 350 except for a few lights not working which I easily fixed. The Xplorer got a new sprocket and chains and they were all adjusted. Got up to my camper Friday night in a downpour so I didn't get a chance to ride them much. Spent the rest of my Friday night picking up a boat that lost wheel with my wrecker so I was soaked and ready for bed after I got back to my camper, so now fourwheeling for me. Saturday morning we got all three Polaris's warmed up and our group headed out for our ride. We put on a little over 50 miles that day and we had no problems at all. The little 350 ran like a champ and was fun to drive. My daughter drove the Xplorer and was happy there was no more popping coming from the rear sprocket and no more chain slap in the front end. I checked my mileage and compared fuel usage in all three machines and they were all fairly similar. All the machines were topped off at the beginning of our ride and when we stopped for fuel, the 500, the 400 and the 350 all used about the same amount of fuel.

Thanks for all the help OPT, it sure is helpful when working on these older machines!

Good looking group of atvs.I was always a little partial to the 2nd generation body style that had real metal racks and steel bumpers.Built like tanks. If you hit something it just rattled your teeth a little, but you didn't have to worry about cracking a 100 buck plastic bumper.Didn't have to worry about cracked fenders or floor boards either as everything was held together by screws and nuts not plastic darts that every manufacturer uses now to cut costs and assembly time. Good luck with them, hope they give you years more of service. 95-97 Magnum 425 was another good one from the 2nd generation that you might keep an eye open for in case you want to expand your herd even more..

Thanks guys,

If there was only one complaint I would have with my machines would be with the Xplorer. The 400 is so much louder than the other two. Even the 350, being a two stroke, seems a little loud when your driving it, but when I watch the kids drive it around, it is fairly quiet compared to the larger 400. I know when I did the rebuild on the 400, the exhaust had a rattle which I found out why. I took the muffler off and a few pieces of the baffle fell out which leads me to believe the muffler is loosing its muffling ability, lol. I looked for other replacements but everything I find is made for performance and loudness. No factory replacements that I know of.

Funny you should say that about the Magnum 425. After I bought my 350, I found this on craigslist. It is a really nice machine, but a little more than I want to spend at the moment. Plus my wife wants all our machines to stay red for some reason, lol.

Good looking 20 year old Magnum. Is a bit high going by KBB,but many times condition out weighs book price values. Kelley Blue Book
Several machines used the same exhaust system as your Explorer. You might keep a check on ebay to see if you get one in better shape.

Thumbs up

Very cool to see older machines (no matter what the brand) out doing things. As long as they've been taken care of and you have a good set of tires an ATV from even the 80's will do fine on the trails.
