Your motor needs the right mixture of gas and air to burn the gas properly so if your filter does not let the right amount of air through then you will be burning to much gas. This is what usually fouls plugs. If the tip of your plug when you pull it out is real black then you are getting to much gas or not enough air.If it is white chalky color then you are not getting enough gas.You want your plug to have a brownish tan color.

Pulled air filter out it is after market I believe Uni , anyways where the filter attaches to the housing you have to slide in is broke apart so now i am believing maybe trash got into carbs or maybe to much air , but I would believe it is not enough air and trash is in carbs , what is the best way to clean carbs any suggestions ...Oh and going to dealership and buying new air filter any one you might suggest after market , my rap is a 686

I have an 01 that recently had a similar problem. I found that the startor/choke plunger was all rusted in place. The spring behind it was rusted and broken in 2 places. The choke lever moved just fine but the pluger was not moving at all.

Check it out. Should only take a couple of minutes to unscrew it from the carb. Hope this helps!
