After some ups and downs and what appeared to be the kiss of death for the MX Vs. ATV video game series last year, some good news has emerged.

Nordic Games has announced that it will indeed be reviving MX vs. ATV franchise in 2014. A new title, MX vs. ATV Supercross, will be released in the fourth quarter of the year for the PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360 consoles, as well as on PC, Mac and Linux.

Nordic says it’s also “maintaining the existing MX vs. ATV Alive and MX vs. ATV Reflex code” and will bring back as many features as possible including console multiplayer, Motoclub Depot and more. Additionally the team working on Supercross is made up of veterans from previous installments in the series and will be led by Ken George.

Nordic purchased the rights to MX vs. ATV back in April once THQ went down.

As the title indicates, the more technical and timing-oriented Supercross stadium tracks will be a major focal point of this latest installment of the franchise; 17-tracks to be exact. It has also been revealed that players will begin in the 250cc class work their way up to the premier 450cc division.

Perhaps the biggest news however comes in the fact that MX Vs. ATV Supercross marks the debut of first-person racing in the series (until now the default view has been third person rather than looking over the virtual handlebars). This, coupled to real-time terrain deformation (think ruts, blue grooves and popular lines forming through the whoops) aim for as realistic a racing experience as possible. The physics system is also said to be undergoing refinements to make preloading the suspension on the face of jumps more accurate when attempting to catch big air.

The price has yet to be announced but we’re speculating between $40 and $60 (hopefully leaning toward the former). More information on the game/ ongoing developments can be found on Nordic’s Facebook page.
