3. Keyed Ignition

Keyed ignition was introduced to several cars by Chrysler in 1949

It’s easy to take for lowly key for granted, but it’s the first line of defense against ATV theft.  Contrary to common misconception, it wasn’t until nearly the 1990s that ATVs really began taking the concept seriously.  Prior to then, firing up an ATV (be it yours or someone else’s) was as simple as flipping the ignition switch to “run” and engaging whatever mechanism of starting it used. While having your quad’s key in your pocket when you aren’t near it isn’t fail-safe, it sure beats the insecurity riders felt a few years ago before it was an option!
