You down with HUV?

Dear ATVC: Going to look at a used Husqvarna HUV for my 95 year old dad. Anybody know anything about them? Guy is asking $3,000. I know they made a Kubota 3 cylinder diesel model, but this is a gas model. Anyone ever see or use one? Where are they made? My dad needs something dependable, as he has a hard time walking. hydrex

The Husqvarna HUV series is a very elusive machine. They’ve been around for nearly a decade and have spanned 15 unique configurations in that time. Depending on the year and model you are considering, there is a strong possibility the HUV was actually manufactured by the company Club Car.

Though based out of Augusta, Georgia, Club Car is actually a part of global industrial firm Ingersoll Rand. What this means is that manufacturing of the machine was likely a result of global parts spec’ing and overseas assembly.

That it is gasoline powered, the machine likely uses a reliable Honda air cooled twin cylinder 4-stroke good for roughly 23 horsepower.

Speed was never a priority for the HUV series as they catered mostly to landscapers and hunters. They all use low-maintenance CVT transmissions. Most users report no particular weakness or problem spots for the machines save for difficulty in locating aftermarket or OEM parts. Most of the service performed on the HUVs comes in the form of regular wear items like tires and batteries/ fluid changes.

Like always, the real decision should come down to the vehicle in question’s history. A properly maintained HUV could easily provide years of trouble-free performance. A thrashed one could provide additional headaches due to the limited availability of parts.
