Do it yourself heated visor options?

Dear ATVC: Is there a kit out there to add a heated visor element to a non-heated visor? I have a helmet that I don’t want to get rid of but there doesn’t seem to be a heated visor option for it. Was thinking of getting a replacement lens and adding one to that but cant seem to find anything.

It’s kinda funny how aftermarket companies offer universal heated visor kits for just about every single component of the system except for the heating element itself. Why do you think this is? If you answered because then anyone could turn any helmet into a heated one rather than buying a $100 heated visor or a $400 snowmobile lid, you’d be correct. So much so that we tried going the OEM/ dealership route on a broken element and got the response that buying the element alone would be no cheaper than buying a new heated shield.

Not to worry though, your ATV Connection Editors know the way around these snags. Head over to eBay and buy yourself some 12v/12w Pi Polyimide heating film tape adhesive for about $2. Here’s an example here.

Fasten the tape as you would to the inside of the visor then run your wires. If you’re handy, you can actually run the tape to a dedicated 12-volt recharagble battery and call it a day. If, on the other hand, you want to run your heating tape through your ATV’s battery via the power outlet and care for little luxuries like an on/off switch and dedicated fuse- pick up a universal heated shield wiring kit like this one from Dennis Kirk for $31.99 when you order your adhesive.
