Ask The Editors: Weighing Clutch Weights

Dear ATVC: I have 2003 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO that I put 26″ Mud Lites. Its sluggish now. What weights and spring can I put in to make my own clutch kit without spending $350 on an EPI clutch kit? That’s insane money for a spring and 3 pieces of metal. What is the stock weights in grams?

Your stock clutch weights (Polaris part #5632283) are 46 grams each (there are three of them). The EPI kit for the mudding package ups that to 50 grams.

Fortunately Quad Logic can hook you up with anything from 44g up to 50 for $49.95 per 3 pack. Here is the link.

We’d probably run EPI’s $20 Primary Red Spring to compensate for the weightier weights if you still aren’t getting the acceleration you seek.
