Dear ATVC: I bought a 85 Suzuki Quadrunner 230 that had an amateur switch wire up.. I would like to know what it would take to just add a flip switch to power up and what wires to use and keep.

If there’s one good thing to be said for the wiring designs of machines from the 1980s, it’s that the lack of electronic gizmos of the era meant nice, clean wiring diagrams.

Here’s a look at the 1985 LT230’s:

As you can see, the only wires you need concern yourself with for an operational ignition switch are the BW and YB codes – which in this case means Black/White and Yellow/Black.
