JetMoto 150 - Little Power
#1
Hey,
Just joined this forum and I have an '06 JetMoto 150 I purchased for my son and am really dissapointed by the low power the engine produces. I have replaced the carburator with a factory replacement as I had several problems with the first. Have it tuned in pretty well, made great improvement by just widening the gap on the spark plug. However, with no additional modifications, the quad really seems lack on power. Also have a Suzuki Ozark 250 for my wife and my (9) year old can't stand the JetMoto and just prefers the 250.
Anyone have similar problems or does it sound like I just got a dud? Any advise on after market carb, air intake, exhaust or anything else that might put some power in this thing? Have a little Pantera 90 I purchased from Pep Boys in '04 that can give it a run for its money.
Any assist would sure be appreciated!
mywifesquad - Would really like to hear from you as you seem to be a JetMoto advocate! You have a similar 150 and would really value your input.
Please advise . . . Ty

TYsToys,
Run a search in the Kids Quads & Other ATVs forum and here also. There is plenty of info for you to go through for the GY6 motor in your 150. I'm sure MWQ will answer you also. Search for air filters, after market pipes and so on. The info is there, just have to look.

smb 05,
Thanks for the info! Will definately dig for the details and see if I can squeeze some power out of it. Any recommendations on easy performance mods for this engine or similar bike?
How do you like your Boreem 150? As a stock bike, did it come with pretty good power? We live on a decent hill that is paved going both directions. This bike really bogs down and can barely carry me up it at 200 lbs. Was really disapointed as I expected it to be "race ready".
Again, thanks for the help . . . Ty

You cant expect ANY Chinese quad to be race ready. Far from race ready. There is alot of mods for that motor because it is a Honda gy6 clone. A big part is the clutching. If it bogs down on hills it may need lighter variator weights to keep the rpm's up or different springs to slow the shift rate. There is alot of things on ebay for mods.

TYsToys,
The quad has worked well for my daughter, but every time my son rides it I have to modify or fix something on the quad. When the quad was in stock form it ran good. Once it warmed up, it had plenty of power. The best part of my quad has been the engine, it hasn't given me a single problem to date. The quad will pull me up some pretty steep hills, and I weigh about 200.
What is your elevation where you live in Utah? Just something to consider as far as the low power issue. You may need to rejet the carb. When my quad was in stock form it did require a richer pilot jet. I had hard starting and some idling issues. When I did the air filter mod that is when I did the rejet to the carb. The carbs work pretty well as long as they are jetted properly.
I have to agree with 2many about the quads not being race ready. As far as wanting to race the Jetmoto 150 it will not last past it's first race without you having frame issues. Try to keep that quad on the ground. If you have a welder then jump away and modify, modify, modify.
Good Luck.

Welcome to the forum TYsToys! The 150 is definitely no power house, thats for sure. It is slow compared to the Jetmoto 200, so I would assume a 250 Ozark would give it fits. I still havnt clocked my Jetmoto 150 yet but it isnt any faster than my Yamoto 150 and I clocked it many times at 32 mph. It is possible that you have some sort of CVT problems.Maybe a bad belt or pulley. That would definitely affect acceleration. smb05 is right about there being lots of hop up items available on ebay and Im sure other places have items too. The air filter is fairly restrictive stock and Im sure the muffler isnt the best flowing either. You might want to start there. Jetmoto is working on a 167cc big bore kit, but Im not sure how long that will take to be available.

if you lack low end performance, then spent the 15-20$ and install lighter roller weights, stock on the 150's are 14gr. install 9 or 10 gr, takes appox 20-30 minutes and without a doubth the best low end gain you can do. as far as race ready , all of the chainese atv's are junk no matter what brand they are, they are good beginner quads for the 4-12 year olds but once they learn and enjoy riding it's time to move up to better equipment.
