Default Sunl 90 Flooded

Help. I am new to this forum. i bought my 5 year old son a sunl90 back in May. I put it together, I di not do the tricks that I have since found on this site-i will do them now. It has always been alittle tough to start, but now I have spark, compression and too much fuel. I replaced the park plug saturday, got it running, adjusted the carb to keep it running, and he drove it for about an hour. Sunday he wanted to drive and it would not start. It would turn over, but would not fire. I pulled the plug and it was BLACK and wet. Cleaned things up, dried things out and still nothing, cranks but does not fire-yes I have spark. Could the carb be fouled up? Iread about someones choke plate comming off. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Always remember to shut of the fuel valve when your?e not using the Atv. Otherwise the carb may get flooded.

It sounds to me like the needle jet needs adjusted in your carb by removing the E-clip and placing up a notch to lean it out a little. Also check you mixture screw on the carb as well.

if it used to work before, i would take carb apart clean it , inspect it make sure float is working properly, and then check the choke.

Default Sunl 90 Flooded

sorry for nt getting back quicker, i am not so good at checking the forum. a couple of weeks ago on Saturday i got it running, adjusted as best I could and my son drove it for a good hour or so. He woke up Sunday wanting to ride and it would not start again. The weather got cold again and I did nothing with it until this past Saturday, I readjusted the carb, starting from scratch, got it running and spent allot of time adjusting the carb and idle. It was running great! Sunday-Guess what? Nothing again, it turns over but does not fire. I guess I will have to pull apart the carb. Any further suggestions?

OK, I am at my whits end!!! I took the carburator apart yesterday, totally cleaned it and blew air through it. Re assebled it and I get the EXACT same problem! I have spark, The engine cranks, sounds like it wants to fire, then just cranks. I have tried adjusting the mixture by bringing it back to zero, backing out 1 1/2 turns and trying that, same thing. I REALLY need some help with this. I am pretty sure it is flooding out, something bad inside the carb? Are there any other adjustments. What and where is the needle jet and 'E' clip that "godilove2ride" mentioned. Please help. Raceway, you are my next call. You seam to be able to help EVERYONE. I did not buy from you, but I guess I should have.
Please help.

tamclau,

If you are able to get it running good for a whole day, I wouldn't worry about the needle and e-clip, which by the way are located under the throttle cap of the carb on top. It is the very top of the carb and screws off. But like I said, I wouldn't worry about that now if you can get it running for a day just fine. To see if is flooding, pull the plug and see if it is wet. If it is, you are flooding. One thing you should do is shut the fuel off after you are done riding it for a day. If you shut the fuel off, then the next day, turn the fuel back on and try to start it. If it starts, you know that it is flooding while sitting, which means a float problem. If it turns out that it is not flooding, I would start looking into the choke.

godIlove2ride,
From what I can tell this unit does not have a fuel shut off. I will get an inline shutoff and install it and see if that helps, may be a day or 2 before I get back.
Went out to the garage earlier today and got it to fire and run very breifly but would not stay running, then same thing, an occasional fire, but otherwise just crank and no fire. Is ther any adjustment to the float in the carb? When I had it apart I looked at it and did not see anything obvious, but then again I am no expert on carburators.
Can the float be adjusted so as not let so much fuel in the bowl?
I don't know. I am grasping for anything. This really is a good little machine when it is running.

I don't know a lot about the SUNL 90's, but I would imagine there would have to be a shutoff on it somewhere, but I could be wrong. As far as adjusting the float, unless you have the specs for it, you will have to just play with adjusting it until it's right. When you look at the float, you will see a tab on the float assembly that is connected to a shutoff needle with a rubber tip. This rubber tipped needle is what shuts the incoming fuel off to the carb when the floats are all the way up. Bending this tab up will shut the fuel supply off with less fuel in the bowl, bending it down will shut the supply off with more fuel in the bowl. In the meantime before you go buy a shutoff, pinch the fuel supply hose off after you get it running for a while. Then the next morning, open the line back up and try starting it. If it starts, then you know it's flooding while sitting.

Another thing you can try is your mixture screw on the outside of the carb. There should be one adjustment screw which is probably phillips head and has ***** around it to turn it by hand. This is for idle adjustment. There should be another adjustment screw below it somewhere and will most likely be a flathead screw. This is your mixture screw. Try turning it all the way in, not tight, just where it stops. Then back it out 1-1/2 turns.
