I guess I am not as smart as I thought. The shift diagram shows neutral 1 2 3 4 5 with the lever pointing at second gear so I guess you were right first and revers are down. I noticed this as I changed the gear oil.

Does first gear work if you shift down? or do you not have oil in it yet?

ok I just went out and tried it. when I try and go into first gear it seems like it keeps popping out it is not making any grinding sounds just sounds like it is getting kicked out of gear.

It could be a bent shift pawl on the shift actuator...Have you ever taken the clutch cover off of a motorcycle/atv engine before?

Interesting post. Found this site after going to the Jianshe site. It looks like it's partsyahoo and saw a thread of a bad experience there.

Default Wilderness 250 stuck in 4th

I have a similar issue, my wilderness 250 is stuck in 4th gear. doesn't make any grinding noises when trying to shift. When I pull up or down on the shift leaver it just does nothing. Any advice?
