Gio 50 cc no start when warm
#1
My sons 50 cc gio will start and run great for about 10 minutes and then it will sputter and stall and will not restart until it cools off, at least 1/2 hour or more. It will then start and run fine again and this will repeat itself. It is a year old and has worked great until now. I tried a new plug and no difference. I heard that coils sometimes stop working when they warm up but really don't want to start blindly replacing parts. Thanks for any help.

That 10 minutes on and 1/2 hour off time constant indictates the source of the problem is thermally connected to the engine. External things like CDI's, coils, etc don't heat up that much since they are outside the engine in a moving stream of air. Their temperature rise is minimal, and they would cool as fast as they heat up. Therefore the coil wouldn't be my first bet. The stator (inside the engine) would more closely follow the heat/cool profile you stated.
But first determine if your problem is even electrical: When the quad quits, quickly pull out the spark plug and see if your have spark. Do you? If you have spark then look elsewhere at fuel or mechanical issues.
But if you don't have spark then it is time to bring out the meter and we can go from there.

we have a gio 110 quad for kids and we were having a problem with it running for a wile then dieing.......figured out that the choke lever (behind lover on side) was not returning all the way.....pushed it down and it runs fine.....can try that.
