I bought a quad real cheap(doesnt run).Im thinking that it is a 200 or 250.ive been trying to get spark but have been unsuccessful.Ive replaced the coil,cdi box and the stator.When the stator came the wires were different colors from the ones on the atv.My question is how to figure out which wires go where with the new stator?

 

What are the colors on the old stator, and what are the colors on the new stator?

Are the number of wires the same?

BTW, you could have completely tested your old stator on the engine to see if it was working or not using a meter. If the stator tested good you could have saved the cost and effort of replacing it.

Do you know if your ignition system is DC powered or AC powered? This impacts which stator to buy.

Have you done any kill switch wiring checks?

Is this a picture of your CDI?

 

Yes that is my cdi.tThe colors on the old stator are blue/white black/red green yellow white and the new are white white black/red,black,white/red.Each have 5 wires.Dont know if system is ac or dc.havent done any kill switch tests(dont know how).

 

Your original stator had classic colors:

Blue/White: Timing/Trigger Signal
Blk/Red: AC Ignition Power
Grn: Ground
Yel: Battery Charge winding #1
White: Battery Charge winding #2

I think the new stator will probably be like this:

White/Red: Timing/Trigger
Blk/Red: AC Ignition Power
Black: Ground
White: Battery Charge winding #1
White: Battery Charge winding #2

To verify this do the following:

Measure the resistance of the new stator black wire to the frame ground on the stator. Use a low scale like 200 ohms or less. Do you get zero ohms?

Measure the resistance of one of the white wires to the other. Do you get a really low value of resistance (less than 2 ohms)? And you should get infinite (open) resistance from each of these wire to ground.

Set your meter to measure reistance on a 2K ohms scale (2000 ohms).

Measure the Black/Red wire resistance to the stator frame ground. You should see 400 ohms (0.4K ohms) or so.

Measure the White/Red wire resistance to the stator frame ground. You should see 150 ohms or so.

If you find all these condition OK then use the table above to hook up the wires and give it a go. Report back the results and we can plan the next course of action if it doesn't work.

You really do need a meter, and fortunately they are very inexpensive these days.

Also Note:

The battery charge winding wires have nothing to do with spark. So as long as you can turn the starter motor at the normal cranking speed you can ignore these wires for spark issues.

Your stator is AC powered if you measure the red/blk wire resistance at around 400 ohms.
