I had to turn over my little girls Tao Tao 110cc atv to get something out she dropped in the gas tank. Now when I run it, its rough and smokes. Suggestions on what to do. Before ran like a champ

Check he oil and just run it until it quits smoking, it should clear itself out. You may want to clean the sparkplug.

thanks Jeff, I have done this several times, cleaning the spark plug and each time I pull it out, its black. I clean it with carb cleaner put it back in, runs a little smooth for a while and then cut and sputters again and when I pull it out its still black. Also someone suggested the the carb float could be over center. ?????

First off stop turning it upside down, remove the gas tank if you have to. Getting in the combustion chanber isn't the only thing that can happen. You have a battery in there too and it's not supposed to be upside down unless it's an AGM type battery. You might need to check the float as your friend suggested.

Need more info on the black plug. I would go ahead and replace it after you get it to quit smoking. Black smoke indicates rich running, blue/ white indicates oil being burned.

Jeff

I pulled off the air filter and its covered with oil on the inside. Once off I started it and let it idle and ran like a champ. I think it was starved for air, so now I need to figure out how to get the oil off the filter. I live in AK so having access to parts requires ordering them. Can I submerge in gas to clean it???

Is it a paper filter or a foam filter? Most foam filters will dissolve if put into gas. Paper you might be ok, but it’s a gamble. You may look into getting a different filter assembly if parts are not readily available in your area. I would expect to see oil in the carb from turning the engine upside down. If the air filter has oil in it, I bet you are right and it’s starved for air and running rich.

I believe its paper. the ATV runs no problem with it off so that has to be the problem, I will use gas and let it dry and run it and see what happens. Thanks
