Got Quad running, Now wont
#1
I was chuft to bits last night, sorted my sons quad all up, Was looking great. It was bought as spare or repair as the guy dident know anything about quads. Anyway there was 2 broken wires on the loom, needed a spark plug and battery. Fired her up an was great to see it go. I had to keep the throttol on or it would stall. So i had started it 2 or 3 time and was fine, I tried to ajust the idle screw so wouldnent need to hold the throttol open. Now it will not start, i am cracking up. And its a pain as the battery goes dead quickly, starting it. I thought it was the petrol, it was 2 years old and was red in colour so put in fresh stuff. still nothing.
Now i have read the sticky above on how to ajust the carb. If i ajust it as it says turn the idle and mixer screw fully clockwise and the back 2 turns should it start?
Heres a pic of the carb, Am i right the screw on left is mixer and one on right is the idle? Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like the carb must need a cleaning. clean out the carb/jets/float assembly. let's start there. now the battery: is it holding a charge or are you having to jump it or keep it on a charger? so, start over on the battery. charge it. check the voltage, install battery, check voltage, crank/turn over the engine while checking voltage. what is the voltage readings before during and then after cranking/starting the engine? if the engine does start, what is the voltage then? Lynn should this your post and chime in and help out on the battery troubleshooting. he'll just need some meter readings that you'll provide. so use your ohm meter/multimeter. And clean the carb and change the fuel filter. this will get you started in the right direction.

Cleaned carb, got her running by ajusting the ide screw, but only ran for couple of min where feathering the throttol. The batter was new and fully charged. Some one has told me it could be stator., But quad hasent run long enough to know.

The stator does three separate things:
1) Provides low voltage, high current, AC power to keep the battery charged through the voltage regulator and associated wiring.
2) Provide moderately high voltage (50 to300 volts), low current, AC power to power the ignition system through the CDI.
3) Provide a trigger pulse to tell the CDI when it is the proper time to fire the spark plug.
All three of these systems are independant of one another. The fact that you have spark and the engine runs at all *strongly* indicates that systems 2 and 3 above are working.
So what is it that makes you suspect the stator? Is it because your battery won't keep charged up? Or is it just the fact that your quad isn't running right?
If it is the latter then I still would say you still have fuel issues - which points to carburetor, or air leaks, etc.
