Default Phantom 124cc GY6 4-Stroke Honda clone

I bought this atv for my 12 yr old son brand new. We have only had it 28 days and will not run good. I put a new plug in it and still will not run right. When you start it you have to hold it wide open and it runs barely over idle then if you shut the fuel off it will start to build up speed then quit. I done that a few time and the exhaust pipe got red hot in on spot. Would anybody know what could be wrong with it I thought maybe carb but not sure it being new. My son rode it and it run great then would not run right.

Is there a blockage in the exhaust?

The plug was real black in it. I think its getting to much gas. I did finally the dealer to call me back and they think it is the carb. Hard to believe its bad already only been rode 10 hrs but it was made in china so it could be. Was going to order one but not sure they had a PZ27 on it and its factory book calls for a PZ19 not sure what to put back on it.

These things usually require a valve adjustment within a few months of being new. The valves seat and then they needs to be adjusted again. That can greatly affect how they start and run. Could also explain a black plug considering the exhaust valve is not staying open long enough.

I agree to check valves and clean the carb. You should not need a new carb.
