2006 KAZUMA Falcon 250cc issues

ok so ran decen but bogged up high.
i may be young but i grew up on 70s 2 strokes not this new crap all ive had is trouble with this thing since i got it between overheating issues (having to stop and let it cool every 30-40 mins to prevent overheating) and cold starts being a PITA.
but i let a buddy borrow it and got it back non running.... hooray
well .....the guy actually rode it to my house and it had a slight audible tick and once he shut it off it never started again. i couldnt get it running for months with oem carb since getting it back.so i was trying to convert to the simple carbs.then someone suggested setting the valve lash
anyway it was spitting fuel and air back through carb
and no matter what i did the spark plug stayed dry.
so i loosened the intake valve adjustment bolt at TDC and moved adjuster to what id say is 0 lash (lol till it was snug) and i went one little notch past and tightened it down. it turns over a tiny bit slower but dont spit back anymore
also around the same time i swapped the governed stock carb for a MIKUNI off a 69 bombardier 340 twin cyl twin carb 2 stroke engine only because inlet and outlett was the same size
dont remember jet size off the top of my head but i set everything as lean as possible.
now all it does is backfire every now and then out the exhaust after feathering throttle. choke on or off makes no difference.
i completely rebuilt this carb it is clean through and through. then i soaked everything in b12 chemtool for a day (the 1 gal jug with parts basket) then sprayed it all down with silicon spray and re-assembled.
idk im undecided as to what path to take now.
return to stock carb or continue fiddling with this carb to try and get it to run.
btw it looks like this:

will tear it off n check jet size shortly and reinstall stock carb with new electric choke
any ideas?

i have a feeling somehow the valve timing is off.... idk how or why.
next.... is there any "how to" posts or something online showing how to check the valve timing and spark timing on this thing?
i want to get this running before snow hits
even though its snowing already lol
