Trying to get a 150cc GY6 quad my brother had for his kids running again. It had been sitting for a while. Throughly cleaned carb multiple times. Its a PD24J with a manual choke. Finally got it to idle but have to spray ether when cold. But when its warm it will idle. Buts bogs when under power. Runs great when I have the air filter off and cover the air intake going to the choke. Im sure thats where problem lies but Im not gonna spend ALOT of time messing around with this thing. Question #1. I looked at other PD24J carbs online, but none have a manual choke.. Can I retrofit an electric choke to this thing? #2- If I went to a Mikuni, How much retrofit is involved with throttle? Since they seem to be mechanically different. Thanks for any help.

 

have you checked compression?
on a cold start, you may need to adjust the valves.
be conservative with that ether.
so does it bog down when gunning the throttle with and without the air filter? if so, i'd say that the main jet is partially clogged/plugged. taking in more air than fuel so it's starving the engine is the bogging.
