Default Xtreme Tantrum X100 questions

Hey Folks,

I'm new here to ATVC and recently came into an older Xtreme Tantrum X100 atv. Since XtremeATV is no longer in business, I cannot find a lot of information about them. I am also new to Chinese quads so I apologize for my lack of knowledge here. My X100 has a 100cc 2-cycle motor on it and it doesn't quite have enough ooomf when I take my little boy on a ride. He's too young to ride it his self so I was thinking about a possible motor swap. I was looking at maybe swapping to a 125cc motor but didn't know what brands, or if it would be a direct replacement or if modifications to the frame or other parts would be necessary. So in closing:

Can I swap a 125cc 4-stroke or 2-cycle (if they make it) engine into my 100cc 2-cycle Chinese quad? Or is there a big bore kit available? If so, what brand engines or bore kits would you suggest and what mods would be necessary?

Sorry again for my lack of knowledge and thank you for the help. Please let me know if I can answer any questions about the ATV for you.

keys to engine swaps:
dimensions available inside chassis. will the replacement fit?
gearbox/tranny...will it bolt up or is it all one piece?
is the electrical system AC or DC?
motor mounts-will they work or have to be modified?
check the throttle cable adjustments and make sure it ain't governed too much. usually a turnbuckle style adjustment at the handlebar or near the carburetor. sometimes in the middle of the throttle cable. it should have "extra" rubber on the outside like a boot. peel the fat rubber back, adjust the jamb nuts, stroke the throttle, adjust more if necessary, then put fat rubber boot back across adjuster.
double check to see if the thumb throttle has a screw on the backside which also acts as a governor.
points to ponder.
i take it that it is an automatic the way you describe it. one speed? maybe reverse also? you could mod the CVT clutch i reckon.
the engine, which clone is it from? honda? yamaha? polaris?
don't apologize for lack of knowledge. we all started out the same way. that's why this forum is here. to spread the word and wisdom and knowledge.

I located your guide on VIN reading. It revealed a little information on the quad but not much. I also tried to remove the belt cover on the left side of the motor but the nuts are completely seized. I've rounded one out and have them sitting in WD-40 now. If it helps, I can post the VIN. Determining the type of motor has become quite difficult! Any suggestions?

I will post some pics on a flickr account and post the link shortly. BTW my response to you earlier meant to say thanks for the UNFLAMED help. Not inflamed response LoL. Didn't want you to think I was being a jerk LoL.

don't worry. it's all good. BTW, here's the definition, so it was a compliment.

in·flame (n-fl m) v. in·flamed, in·flam·ing, in·flames. v.tr. 1. To arouse to passionate feeling or action: Ex: crimes that inflamed the entire community.

OK so here is the link to Flickr showing some pics of the quad. There are also several on there of a vintage (and I do mean vin-tage) trike that I'm restoring. So just disregard those. Flickr: BrandoB Avenger Big Foot Pics' Photostream
