Do I need a battery?
#1
Hi, my battery is not connected, not sure if its any good really need to test it, when starting I use jump leads, do I need to have a battery? My thinking is to have some kind of plug that when connected will start the bike, then disconnect when running. Only down side I can see is that if it stops it cant be restarted without being plugged in again. Do I need a battery to complete the circuit, would not having one cause any damage?

you must have a battery! it competes the circuit. you'll burn up some part, the weakest part. the think of the electrical system like your car pick up truck, if it ain't complete, it'll take out the weakest link. don't know about your part of the country, but walmart, the store i love to hate, has quad batteries for $40. they work just fine. i'd rather spend that low amount on a wallyworld battery than $300 on a main electrical system repair.

i have an EverStart from walmart that cost me $40. it is a 12N9-4B-1.
you need to measure your battery box or wherever the battery will sit and then get a battery that will obviously fit in the right spot, but also have an adequate amount of CCAs to turn the quad over. so check out that model and see what the Cold Cranking Amps are. my 150cc TaoTao has that battery model i listed above. it's just worn down and i can't see the CCA rating anymore. so do a little shopping and compare the different brands vs CCA ratings.

Sorry, I realise that they need to physically fit in the bikes but was unsure of the amp hour rating or as Jaster has said the CCA rating. I am not sure of the brand of the bikes so was hoping someone could point me in the right direction with the ccs of the bikes, 110 and 150. Thanks.

most of these batteries are real similar in CCAs. here's several examples to look at as far as Amp hours go etc..... look through these and you'll get an idea of what you need. as i said, walmarts are everywhere and i have no issues whatsoever with the battery i mentioned above. that's the predominant battery i use in all of my chinese quads and in my honda TRX250EX 250cc quad. yeah, it does great. as i said also, around my part of the world, there only $40. CCAs should not be an issue with these batteries. don't get hung up on that. amp hour ratings...i have 2Ah, 5Ah and 10Ah batteries...i think that's what they say on them.
