Kazuma over heating?
#1
While riding this weekend it seams like my bike over heated. The bike totally died and would not start back up. after the bike cooled off for an hour it started right back up and had no issues. Why is this? Radiator has been flushed and filled, radiator fan was running.

ok I checked to make sure I had antifreeze and we are good. I started up the bike and let it run until the antifreeze started to get hot. I would think this shows that it is running through the engine. I also made sure that the fan came on and is blowing towards the radiator and this is all good. What else can I try?

to me, it sounds sounds electrical. if it does it again, check for spark while cranking. i am wondering if the voltage regulator OR the CDI is overheating thus not letting it fire up but allowing it to crank. we'll need to test those items next time is does it. i'm presuming that your water pump is functioning because if it ain't, you'd crack a head from the overheating and blow a head gasket or lock it up. do you have an engine block thermometer or temp gauge? but right now, i'm leaning towards electrical issues. how long did you ride before it "overheated"?

yeah it does. i agree with you. it's one of the 3.
so rick, next time it shuts down on you, check the temp of the coil, CDI, and voltage regulator. don't burn your hand. then like i said, after it "dies", check for spark. that'll tell us alot! armagh is onto something here, i forgot about the coil also.

whoa, another thing, did it just die or did it starting bogging down and die? if it started bogging down and died, check to make sure your fuel tank is vented either by a hose coming off of the fuel cap or that the fuel cap is vented. probably need to blow air through the cap. it could've been possible you reached equilibrium and and could no longer pull fuel out of the tank because it was under a vacuum. that's just something else to check out.

yes it bogged down and died. my fuel cap does have a line on it. We pulled the bike back to the trailer and I trailered it back home. Once I was home it started right back up. It almost sounded like it was running out of gas.

like i said, next time, if there's a next time, check temps of CDI, voltage regulator, and coil pack. then check for spark and check for fuel at the drain on the float bowl. multiple things to check out so we can start ruling out the non offenders.
